Dear Ana,
Civilizations all around the world marked the cycles of the year with Medicine wheels, standing stones, in song and in writings. For our ancestors, life was closely linked with those seasonal cycles. Cycles form patterns that we observe and work. We have a sense for what we can expect from each season, what is in bloom, what recedes.
Ou r own wheels keep turning through different life phases. Tender sprouts of spring have slowly given way to lush, robust blossoms. But the wheel of life is a wheel within a wheel. Each new beginning, a new spring, each new accomplishment a summer, every gift of abundance a new harvest, and each ending, a time of rest before looking ahead to the next spring. Each cycle has its gifts and its expectations. After all, there is no harvest without planting that promising seed. What cycle are you in right now? Honor wherever you are on your wheel and acknowledge your special gifts. Many Blessings for your season.

I recently met two strikingly different people who work together as licensed acupuncturists and herbalists at Aspen Wellness Center in Fort Collins.
Scott: Every bit of his six foot, eight inch frame declares his capability as an outdoors-man and former cattle rancher. He's got the giant hands of a rock climber, but he listens intently, focusing his lapis-colored eyes on you like reflecting pools. His nature is deliberately calming.
Rachel: Compact, efficient, always three steps ahead, wicked smart and exceedingly compassionate. Her hawk-like precision belies her true nature; she lives for authenticity and cringes at even her own hypocrisies (like the coffee she drinks while we talk about ideal diet).
Their two specialties - pain and fertility - work hand in hand to cover most of the treatments requested by their patients. Yin/ yang, tall/ short, energetic/ grounded, city girl/ country boy - Scott and Rachel are in many ways opposites. But they are united by a belief in the power of Chinese medicine to heal the whole person ...
