Dear Ana,
I love having a bouquet of fresh flowers in the house. They bring a clean, happy note into the home.
When I lived in New York City, I loved the number of flower vendors I passed on my way to and from the subway. New Yorkers love to bring home fresh flowers for their apartments. Even in the poorest neighborhoods, buckets of gladioluses and carnations erupt their colors on unlikely urban streets. The beauty and fragrance of flowers affects us deeply at an instinctual level. Our bodies respond, relaxing and calming. Bring some flowers home this month. Fill a pitcher with riotous lilies or daisies. Put a bud vase next to your bed with a couple of the blooms. Wake up in the morning enveloped with beauty and fragrance. It's a lovely way to start a day.
Happy February!
