Larimar is a rare form of blue Pectolite, a sodium calcium silicate mineral (NaCa2Si3O8[OH]). The color sometimes produces reticulate patterns of blue and white, and there is often a pronounced silky area. The beautiful shades of blue and green come from traces of copper. This mineral is only found on the island of La Hispanola and is often referred to as the Jewel of the Caribbean.
